Field Facilitator
The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) envisions a more equitable world where forestry and landscapes enhance the environment and well-being for all. CIFOR is a non-profit, scientific institution that conducts research on the most pressing challenges of forest and landscape management around the world. Using a global, multidisciplinary approach, we aim to improve human well-being, protect the environment, and increase equity. To do so, we conduct innovative research, develop partners’ capacity, and actively engage in dialogue with all stakeholders to inform policies and practices that affect forests and people. CIFOR is a CGIAR Research Center, and leads the CGIAR Research Program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA). Our headquarters are in Bogor, Indonesia, with offices in Nairobi, Kenya, Yaoundé, Cameroon, and Lima, Peru.
Overview
The Project FORETS (FOrmation, Recherche, Environnement dans la TShopo) is an action mainly funded with resources from the XI European Development Fund.
The action is defined as a substantial contribution to the integrated development of the Yangambi Biosphere Reserve landscape in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). It aims to achieve specific objectives about conservation and the use of biodiversity and ecosystem services in the scope of sustainable development of local populations. Activities are defined along the Yangambi–Kisangani axis in the Tshopo Province and not only address support to local communities through awareness raising, extension and outreach, but also strengthen national human resources, through formal university training programs such as LMD (Licence, Master, Doctorat, or BSc, MSc and PhD).
The action aims at embracing a series of socioeconomic development opportunities in a landscape of circa 400,000 ha and impacting – directly and indirectly – a population of circa 1 million urban and rural dwellers.
